Review: Marina Bay Sands in Singapore

Our stay at the Marina Bay Sands was part of our first international trip together to Singapore and Hong Kong in 2018. This hotel was our first foray into luxury travel.

Background

Marina Bay Sands is owned by the Las Vegas Sands Corporation. Opened in 2010 at Marina Bay, the hotel was designed by Moshe Safdie to appear like card decks. The hotel contains 2561 accommodations, a convention-exhibition center, The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands mall, casino, and so much more! The three towers are connected by a large skyway, dubbed SkyPark. Within SkyPark is the famous infinity pool that overlooks the beautiful marina.

Booking

We booked our the reservation a month prior to our stay. We booked the Premier King City View for a total cost of S$776, which was around $582. At the time, we couldn’t fathom paying so much for a hotel room, but we decided that we didn’t want to skip out staying in such an iconic hotel (plus only hotel guests get access to the infinity pool, which we were very much interested in).

Back then, we knew nothing about American Express Fine Hotel & Resorts (FHR) or Virtuoso, so we booked the stay directly with the hotel. At the time, I didn’t have an American Express Platinum card for FHR, but at least Virtuoso would have given us $100 property credit, and usually at the same price as booking directly with the hotel.

Check-in & Premier King City View Room

We arrived at the hotel around 1pm. Check-in was simple, but we received no upgrade.

We were assigned the Premier King City View room 3169. The wood accents and lighting felt well designed and upscale.

Upon walking in, there is a wood-accented hallway containing the entrance to the bathroom, as well as the closets on the right, and a large mirror on the left. The room is covered by patterned carpet.

The bathroom contains a double vanity, a full size soaking tub, and a separate shower and toilet area with privacy glass.

The room contains a small desk area with a lamp and a rolling chair. The TV is situated right above the desk

The King bed was laid with crisp white linens, with a large head board. There were two options for bedside lights, and large nightstands with universal plugs. We especially liked the floor the ceiling wood, and wood slats. The warm beige colors felt comforting and organic. The room was very well lit from the large windows.

Next the floor to ceiling windows were two arm chairs and a table. The windows opened up to a breathtaking view of the city.

And we spent quite a while posing for pics, since we were excited for our first luxury stay together.

Marina Bay Sands Infinity Pool

We woke up early, and made it to the pool at around 7am. The pool at Marina Bay Sands is known to be insanely crowded, and arriving so early allowed up to snap many pics before the influx of other guests. The infinity pool is open only to hotel guests, and a tap of your room key is required to access to the pool area.

The pool is situated 57 floors or 627ft above the city, and is also the world’s longest elevated swimming pool.

Summary

We really enjoyed our time at Marina Bay Sands, even though we barely had any time at the hotel since there was just so much to do in Singapore. The view from the room was fantastic, but was even better at the infinity pool.

I would highly recommend staying at this hotel for at least one night if you are ever in the city.
